Home with ‘Rona: 10 Things to do to Avoid going Crazy While At Home

Covid-19 is here and we are all practicing (supposed to be) social distancing. With that being said, the normal busyness of our lives: errands, multiple events, meetings, social gatherings, etc have come to a halt. For many of us, this may be the first time in awhile that we have been home for an extended period of time. For others, the uncertainty of the state of the world and this crisis may have you feeling panicked and anxious. However, I think we can use this time to reset and exercise control through activities that you may not normally be able to complete or even carve out the time to think about doing. Exercise of healthy control (focus on things in your life that you CAN control) accompanied with productivity help to boost your mood and can go a long way in surviving Rona’.

1.       Clean that closet (room, pantry, cabinet, etc) that you always slowly open and quickly close because it is overcrowded.

Added bonus: if you discover new or gently used items in the closet (room, etc)  sell them online. You don’t use those items anyway, so use it as an opportunity to make extra cash!

2.       Fold ALL of your clothes. Yep, attack that pile that has been sitting there because “you just don’t have time.”

3.       Study for a test/upcoming standardized exam. This could be an exam for college/graduate admissions, certification, or a professional license. You could also look up and review requirements for that school or program that you’ve been thinking about applying to, but never quite got around to….

4.       Read a book(s). There’s no better time than now, to dive into a GREAT read.

5.       Deep clean your house….it is “spring” cleaning anyway.

6.       Set a time limit for social media daily, or build “mini goals” to accomplish before getting on social media. Social media can INCREASE feelings of anxiety due to the constant update of information. Creating task driven incentives for social media can increase your personal   productivity and ability to get things DONE!

7.       Limit your news intake. There is no need to track the news all day for the latest updates. There is a difference between awareness and hypervigilance. Challenge yourself to check the news NO MORE than two times a day and observe the difference in your mood.

8.       CALL (or FaceTime) with friends and family. There is a HUGE difference between talking to people versus texting people. We are required to physically distance ourselves from each other but we do not need to emotionally distance ourselves.

9.       Catch up on podcasts episodes, sermons, webinars, etc that you started listening to or intended to listen to but never finished. Added bonus: Go back and re-listen to some of your favorites and TAKE NOTES!

10.   Review your vision board or new years resolutions. We are approaching the end of the first quarter of the year. Now is a GREAT time to evaluate progress and make revisions to your goals. If you haven’t done a vision board for the year or set goals, now is a GREAT time! Remember that goals can range from saving money, to improving relationships, weightloss/health, etc.
